The scaffolding begins to come down

The rear of the building is now free of scaffolding and, quite simply, looks stunning. It brings to mind the Harvard building in America. It has the same sense of space, light and elegance about it. The yellow / blue panels will be replaced very soon and with the new rendering on the front of the building it is starting to look even more finished. Again, I have been assured that is build is still on schedule for a July completion. Mr Baxter, Mr Cook and Mrs Jeacock have also had an opportunity to explore the photo-voltaic cells on the roof and have taken some very impressive futuristic images which will be put on the website.

I also visited the build this morning to see the dado rails up in all the rooms, the trunking in all the rooms and also a 'mist' coat of paint across most of the walls. Again, the sense of 'finishing' springs to mind. The ceilings are beginning to go up in the rooms and that will make a great difference.

The plans and design for the canteen area are also completed. It will be fitted out with cupboards which have white doors and a wooden worktop. This area will also be equipped with 2 vending machines, 2 microwaves, a fridge, sink, basin, dishwasher and hot water boiler. It will be a very stylish, modern and practical area for the students to use.

The designer has also come up with the plans for the colour schemes for the walls and flooring. He will email these to me next week and I shall put these on the website. Red carpets on the stairs is a striking feature of his design!

I have posted details about INDUCTION to all students today and these should be with you early next week.

Only 2 months to go and I know that will fly by!

  1. This sounds brilliant! I truly cannot wait until it is all finished so we can get cracking with the new learning spaces. This is going to be absolutely amazing.
I just have one question, when we all come into the new Sixth Form, most students and me were thinking about bringing our laptops to keep up to date with work at school and at home; this would be a lot easier for most of us. However, some charges for laptops run out within 2 hours, so I was just wondering will there be available charging points or can we just use any plug?
Thank you. Very excited and cannot wait for the final word!
By the way, you're a lovely person and an absolute delight to be taught by, cannot wait to be taught by you next year :)

  2. I can confirm that you will be able to charge your laptops in the Sixth Form centre and / or use the plugs in each room. You will need to have your plug & power pack PAT tested by the facilities department which is easy to do and I will organise this for all of you at the start of the academic Year.

Thank you for posting a comment on the blog- it is really good to hear that you are looking forward to it as much as the staff. :)

  3. What is the difference between the canteen and the common room? and are they two separate rooms ? :)

  4. They are 2 separate areas.

The common room is for quiet study - it will be furnished with sofas, soft chairs and some tables.

The cafeteria is desiganted as the social area - it will be equipped with kitchen equipment, vending machines and space for tables /seating for refreshments.

Please note, both areas are huge!

  5. I would recommend that you bring at least a note pad to induction - but if you wish to bring a folder as well that would be very helpful. You will get a lot of information about your courses and beginning to organise everything from the start is a very good idea.

  6. When you say the children are allowed to use their laptops in school, is this just during free periods, lunch etc, or can they use it in lessons to keep their notes? Thankyou

  7. The students will be able to use their laptops during lessons as well. For many students this will be their preferred way of making notes and organising their learning.
